How to install printer on a Windows XP machine?
by Kelly in ,

A printer is a peripheral device which produces a hard copy of documents stored in electronic form, generally on physical print media such as paper. Printers are primarily used as local devices, and are connected through a cable. Today, most of the new printers use USB cable. You can install printer in two different ways one is locally and other in network. In this blog we have described how to install printer locally.

Follow the given instructions to install printer in Windows XP:

Most of the new printers support Plug and Play technology, while many old printers do not. The steps involved in installing a printer that is attached to your system differ depending on whether it supports Plug and Play.

Note: To install printer that is connected directly to your computer, you must have Administrative rights.

  • 1. Connect the printer cable to the appropriate port on your system according to the printer manufacturer's instructions.

  • 2. Plug the power cord of the printer into a wall outlet and turn the printer on. Windows detects your Plug and Play printer and in many cases, installs it without requiring you to make any selections. The printer is ready to print.

  • 3. If Found New Hardware Wizard appears, follow the steps to complete the procedure.

  • Note: You can also install printer by clicking Add a printer under Printer Tasks on the left side of Printers and Faxes.
If Windows does not recognize your Plug and Play printer, try to install it as a device using the Add Hardware Wizard. Never install an incompatible driver.

When you are done, printer appears in the printers and faxes folder. If you want to print a test page, first make sure your printer is switch on and ready to print.
